According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a gearhead is a person who pursues mechanical or technological interests. Cars are the primary source of transportation in the world today. For some people it is just a tool to get from point A to point B, but for others it’s being free and having a passion.

A so-called “gearhead” has an absolute passion for the love of automobiles and every detail about them. It’s not just the point A to B driving that they enjoy, it’s the fun in between.

People who are not interested in cars don’t understand a vehicles importance or the place in society they possess. Kids who can’t drive watch movies like Fast & Furious or play games like Need for Speed and they are instantly hooked. From that moment on those people eat, sleep, and breathe cars.

In recent years, actor Paul Walker put cars on the front stage after he played in Fast & Furious and his unfortunate death in 2013. Paul Walker’s death came due to a car accident at high speeds in a Porsche Carrera GT. The car was being driven by Roger Rodas, a professional race car driver and friend of Walker, and hit a tree going approximately 100 mph before hitting a tree. Having a celebrity in the car community die in a car crash is a shame but that has only brought more people into the car community and put it on the map.

The average consumer pays attention to statistics like fuel economy or size capacity while gearheads will completely strip out the interior to go faster.

What it means to be a gearhead means to spend a majority of time working on, learning about, or talking about the automotive world. There are now events where people will travel thousands of miles just to see more cars. What it means to be a gearhead means to find peace and serenity in a simple road trip to nowhere. Being a gearhead means to put up posters and have wallpapers of millions of dollars cars. That’s what it means.
