An intrasquad tournament sounds like it might resemble something from the Middle Ages. It’s actually a tournament to determine how Academic Team should split up into the teams for upcoming competitions. At the competitions they compete against other Academic Team clubs from different schools. Four people play on one team at a time, plus one or two alternates, and only two teams go to the competition.

Their first tournament didn’t go great, yet they won a round by over two hundred points. Academic Team president, Dylan Morris, explains that each tournament varies.

“If all questions are answered, the max score is usually 800. Tournament format can change somewhat from one to the other,” he said.

The second tournament went better, and they ended up getting second place.

“We play many local schools. We have played against Branson, Central, and Parkview so far this year,” Morris said.

Right now, Academic Team is halfway through their season. Districts will be in April.

“If we win districts, we will play at sectionals for the chance to go to state,” he explained. “Based on our performance so far this year, we have already qualified for nationals in Atlanta.”
