Kickapoo’s boys basketball team took the long 3-hour drive to Columbia two years in a row  to play for a State Championship in 2016,  and 2017.

If this years team makes it to State, it will be about a 20-minute drive right to JHQ Arena. The Q was selected to host the State Championships for boys and girls basketball  in the  2017-2018 school year.

“It would be a great feeling knowing so many people would be supporting us. I feel like we would have an advantage because of the location,” Tanner Oetting said about playing in JHQ Arena for the State Championship.

This year’s team will have a lot of holes to fill after losing all 5 starters last season. Senior Sam Wallin and Junior Tanner Oetting are the only returning varsity players. Both of them look to step up this year and play a big role.

“ I am just trying to play hard all season. But making All-State would be special,” Oetting said.

The Chiefs start their season on November 30th when they play in the Parkview Arvest Bank Tournament.

“Getting back out on the court should be exciting, it should be a fun year,” Wallin said.

The Chiefs open up their home campaign December 15th when they play Ozark.
