Being a part of the Cabinet is special. Each person has a specific role and job that they are in charge of. However, many students don’t know exactly what each position does and why they are important. Student Council is the same way, some don’t even know student council is a thing. Here are all the different positions of Cabinet and Student Council:
President- The job of the president is to represent the entire student body. The president is in charge of communicating with the presidents of every school in Springfield and they invite them to our school’s events. They are the Cabinet’s leader and ensure everyone is doing their part. They also co-run the student council with the secretary and are a communication point for the council. A president is chosen at the end of the previous school year and gets to pick the rest of the Cabinet. They then get to help out with other positions, however, they choose. This year’s president is Hannah Gardner.
“I really like to lead, It felt like something that I knew I could do. I knew I wanted to be on Cabinet, especially as president because I got to pick who else was on Cabinet. I really wanted to have the responsibility to choose who was on Cabinet with me. It was always something I knew I could do,” Gardner said.
Vice President- The job of the vice president is to help out in all elections by creating the forms for them and helping with monitoring the student voting process. Another job they have is also to assist the president and their functions. This year’s vice president is Aubrey Nesbitt.
“I wanted a position that was behind the scenes and not something that was super in front of everyone, it’s not an authority position but you’re definitely up there in Cabinet. I enjoy it because I like being with this group of people,” Nesbitt said.
Spirit Commissioner- The job of the spirit commissioner is to come up with ideas for spirit days, dance themes, and game themes. At the beginning of the school year, they are the main organizers of Chief Night. They then present these ideas to the rest of the Cabinet members and then show the school. This year’s commissioner is Abby Baltz.
“I think this position fits my personality very well. I’m very outgoing and like to bring spirit to any team,” Baltz said.

They are also speaking on the microphone for the majority of the assemblies. This year’s commissioner is Brooke Chaffin.
“I wanted to be an assembly commissioner because I loved assemblies. I felt like our school spirit and enthusiasm had been lacking for a while, so I thought if I could even make that better for a day, I would feel really good about it,” Chaffin said.

They fill out receipts of people who buy tickets and also when the cabinet needs to get supplies for events like dances. They make sure all money that comes in and out is organized. “I think secretary fits me well. My responsibilities aren’t too crazy but it’s nice that I get to help others with theirs,” Green said.
Communication Commissioner- This position is responsible for controlling all social media of the school. They post about important events and help keep the student body informed. This year there are two commissioners, Tyce Nash and Hannah Williams.
“I knew I wanted to interact with the student body, but I am a little shy, so being able to communicate with them inadvertently, or through social media helped me because I’m still involved without being at the forefront,” Nash said.
“I’ve always been on social media and I’ve always looked at the Kickapoo Cabinet Instagram and been like what’s going on with that? I didn’t know this was something that Cabinet could do so when I saw this job I was like, ‘That’s amazing, I want to do that’,“ Williams said.
Hospitality Commissioner- Hospitality commissioners make and plan teacher luncheons, pick tribe leaders of the month, and structure the Mr. KHS event at the end of the year. This year’s commissioners are Sierra Strawn and Kylie Galyean.
“I like to give people representation and just show them that they are appreciated such as the staff and teachers who don’t get to see it as much. I think that that’s very important,” Galyean said.
“I wanted this job because I don’t think that teachers get the appreciation they deserve sometimes, and I wanted to be the person that says, hey we appreciate you,” Strawn said.
Service Commissioner- This commissioner is responsible for planning outreach projects such as the blood drive and assigning jobs during the drive as well as special education parties. This year’s commissioner is Sidney Pierce.

Class Officers- They are the leaders of their class. They are held to a higher standard than the other positions. The responsibility of this position is to participate in Cabinet-sponsored events, help clean up after events and games, participate in spirit days, and so forth. They also discuss with the Cabinet about school events and bring that news back to their student class.
Club Representatives- Every club chooses a representative to listen to meetings and bring back news to their club. Representatives are held to the same standard as members but they represent their club, and their actions and decisions should reflect said club.
