Bingo is known to be a classic game to play, but it can get boring listening to number after number being read off. This is why HOSA hosts a “singo” night which is a musical twist on the original game as a fresh, new way to fundraise.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a club offered here that focuses on people interested in the profession of healthcare.

“I love being in HOSA because I want to be in the medical field and it has a ton of learning opportunities. There are workshops where I can learn about different careers and also skills I’ll need in the future: suturing, CPR, etc.  I can also compete with my friends in something that I am really passionate about,” junior officer Summer Weems said.

In addition to their many workshops, they have different fundraisers like singo night which was just held on May Fourth. The theme was “May the Fourth Be With You” and was Star Wars related.

Singo is similar to bingo, but a song is played and if a player has that song on their board, it can be marked off. The first one to call bingo receives one of the various prizes offered. All of the proceeds of ticket sales goes to HOSA’s parent organization called “Be the Match”.

“Our funds from throughout the year go towards “Be the Match” which is a bone marrow transplant organization. People send swabs in and receive a call if they are a match with someone in need,” Weems said.

This is not the first singo night HOSA has held, and there has been an amazing turnout at each event. Not only is this for students, but people of all ages are encouraged to come participate in the fun and help out a good cause.

“I think the main reason we love hosting a singo night is because it’s fun for all ages. We enjoy making the decorations and seeing everyone have a good time while playing. Families, students, and teachers are all encouraged to come to our singo,” Weems said.

Next time singo night is held, give it a try and help donate to the wonderful organization behind it while having tons of fun with friends and family.
