Teachers are the ones who have been guiding students since they were little kids. Like everyone else, teachers have daily tasks and deciding what to wear is one of them.
The law for school dress codes for teachers was established in 1969. It’s a big deal and it has been lingering since it started. The teacher dress code was decided with the idea in mind of having a more comfortable classroom environment for students.
Principal Dr Bill Powers talks about the dress code rules for our school and how those rules affect us.
“Nothing has truly changed with the district’s dress code. It has just been re-emphasized to make sure we are having more professional outfits,” Powers said.
There have been no current issues with teachers and dress code for this new year. An example of some of the restrictions are jeans.
“Really the only time we should be wearing jeans is during spirit days. The only time I have ever addressed a teacher for their outfit is only if I felt it was too revealing or inappropriate for a high school setting. I have not had to address anyone this year,” Powers said.
Biology teacher Andrew Schanfarber gives his view on the current dress code rules in place.
“Personally I believe you get what you get, I wear what I wear daily and I have felt unaffected by the current dress code rules,” Schanfarber said.
English teacher Allison Armstrong gives her view on how teachers can be professional without necessarily following the “no blue jeans” rule.
“I don’t think the dress code that we have now is necessarily a bad thing, but I do believe that us teachers can continue to look professional even in jeans,”
Teachers are allowed to wear jeans on spirit days and days where they are approved. Certain outfits including jeans can be approved if the teacher is wearing a school shirt or participating in spirit day. Most teachers seem to feel unaffected or even comfortable with these new implications.
The teacher dress code is purely to make an appropriate and educational environment for students. No matter what rules are in place, our teachers are still the most appreciated people in the building with whatever style they choose to rock.
