President Donald Trump has passed the one month mark of his second presidency. He has appointed his presidential cabinet, signed executive orders, and introduced new ideas for how he wants to run the country for the next four years. Here is a look into what specifically he has accomplished so far.
Cabinet Picks:
The constitution states that, “The Cabinet’s role is to advise the President on any subject he may require relating to the duties of each member’s respective office.”
Being on the President’s Cabinet is a very important role as they directly help the President make any important decisions about the country.
Now that President Trump’s cabinet has been established, they have worked on fulfilling executive orders and advising the president.
Cash Patel and Robert.F Kennedy are among the members that he has appointed into roles on his cabinet.
DEI Order:
While Trump has not taken immediate action, he has voiced his intentions about wanting to abolish Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, or DEI programs throughout the United States. Getting rid of DEI programs would change college admission processes, racial and gender job training, and workplace culture.
Firing of Federal Workers:
President Trump is a part of the conservative republican party. He has made it very clear during his campaign that he wants to find ways to cut costs and save money for America.
In order for him to achieve this, he created a government position called the Department of Government Efficiency, more commonly known as DOGE held by Elon Musk, to find different areas of the government where funding and spending could be cut.
Trump and his cabinet have begun the process of firing hundreds of federal government employees. However, this order has been partially stopped by courts, as it has been deemed illegal and unconstitutional.
Abolishing The Department of Education:
Similar to firing hundreds of government employees, Trump and his cabinet have also mentioned getting rid of the Department of Education.
While abolishing a full department of government may seem extreme, the power, funding, and responsibilities of this department would be handed to the states.
Tariffs:
President Trump is a businessman. That being said, he has brought this business mindset into politics and into his second presidency.
Trump has put a 25 percent tariff on all Mexican and Canadian goods. Tariffs are taxes put on imported goods. According to the BBC, “Trump is using tariffs as a way to increase tax revenue, thus boosting the economy.”
These things are not the only thing Trump has set in stone. There are many other propositions that are still in progress of being considered and implemented.
