As a new driver, roadwork can be very stressful due to the delays and traffic. Adjusting to losing an entire lane on a road you drive down every day is irritating. I can understand roadwork to make things easier and relate to the size of the population, but the fact that it’s all the time and most of our roads are appalling.
Living in Springfield, it feels as though we always have construction going on. I understand why construction happens, most of the time it’s to reduce traffic by adding more lanes or improving the town.
I think that the city of springfield should try and fix what is already here and that is slowly decomposing. Potholes and light street lines are actually kind of scary when you’re not expecting it. Late at night, faded street lines are difficult to navigate.
I see so many overgrown stop signs that make me double take before I even realize it’s there. This is very dangerous and I wish that construction workers would take a look and spend some time on those roads. They are used every day by thousands of people. They are very useful and in my opinion not confusing.
One example is the South Kansas Expressway exit off of Highway 60, the road is so rugged, that my entire car shakes violently when I drive onto the road. The issue is that I’m on my way home, and an exit off a highway means a lot of people travel over it every day. This causes wearing down of the road and even worse quality.
Another example is my drive down back to my house is pothole after pothole, the street is worn down, and the lines on the roads are patchy and faint. Making my drive home after school or any place a lot more annoying than necessary.
Now a big part of my rage comes from the intersection of South Campbell and West Republic Road where they are trying to add an extra lane to all four roads. It is taking a lot of work and time, now that it’s coming closer to an end we’ve lost an entire lane off W Republic Road.
I understand that expanding is good for the ever-changing population, but sometimes it’s okay to let it be and work on what’s already here.
