Prom is one of the most memorable experiences of high school, but right now, only seniors get to enjoy it. That needs to change. Our school should have two proms: one for juniors and one for seniors. Not only would this bring our traditions more similar to most other schools in our area, but it would also improve the prom experience for everyone.
Having separate proms means more memories. High school goes by fast, and one prom simply isn’t enough. Why shouldn’t juniors get a chance to celebrate this milestone too? Two proms give students more time to enjoy the night, take pictures, and feel celebrated. Seniors wouldn’t have to carry the pressure of making one night completely perfect.
It’s also about crowd control. Anyone who’s been to a packed school dance knows how chaotic things can get. Two proms at the same venue on different nights would allow for more space, better organization, and a more enjoyable experience overall. Everyone would have more room to dance without being shoulder-to-shoulder with more than half the school.
Junior prom would help prepare students socially for senior prom and real-world events. It builds confidence, encourages school spirit, gives students something to look forward to, and lets students learn how to plan and carry out major events with their peers. Imagine how valuable it would be to have student committees in each grade help organize their prom, bringing fresh ideas and new leadership opportunities.
Cost is a huge factor that tends to be more on the negative side, but there are solutions. Other schools make it work by organizing fundraisers, raising ticket prices slightly, or offering ticket add-ons like professional photos or dinner options to keep the base low. With the right planning and student involvement, we could fund both events without placing a major financial burden on anyone.
This isn’t about luxury, it’s about what we deserve. Students work hard, and prom is one of the few times we were recognized in a big way. Why limit that experience to just one night for one grade? Two proms means more memories, more fun, less pressure, and a better high school experience overall.
