When entering any sporting event at are school, At every game, whether it’s for football, basketball, or volleyball, there is always a fee.
However, I think the entry fee to all sporting events should be free for participating players’ parents.
Paying for your athlete to play the sport they love and still having to pay for every single game you want to attend can get frustrating. But why is this the expectation?
Our athletic director, Scot Phillips, has some reasons for this.
“Because of the cost it takes to pay for game officials we have to pay for the score table, the people running it, the press box, and the people who make announcements,” Phillips said.
I see where Phillips is coming from as there are a lot of costs that go into the game. I do cheer and I think my parents should get into the games for free. cheer is expensive, and after all that I still have to pay an athletic fee.
“There is a lot of cost involved and I would say that is the big reason. It’s all of the underlying cost that goes into it,” Phillips said
If parents have to pay to get in, I think it should come with some benefits. for example, you come five times you can enter for free twice or get free concession coupons. Even athletes should get into the game for free.
The cost for the athletic fee is fifty dollars per athlete for a pass. On top of that is what all you have to participate in your sport.
“The money that they pay for home events goes into a pot of money that can help pay for transportation,”
Phillips said.
While the parents and students pay for games, food, and drinks goes to very important things that help the athletes, it is still money coming out of their pockets.
Even if it is going to be good things I think there should be a more affordable option for athletes and their families.
