Every student involved in athletics at our school has different ways of getting ready for performances and relaxing afterwards, whether it’s with their teammates or on their own.
Senior Sierra Strawn is on the varsity volleyball team. She and her teammates prepare for their games together in the locker room.
“We go into the locker room and we will listen to music while we get all of our stuff on. I kinda just go through my head what we are going to do that game,” Strawn said.
After a game Strawn takes a shower to feel clean and relaxed.
Junior Noah Williams is a part of the boys swim team. He prepares for meets in the morning before school begins.
“I grab all my stuff in the morning and depending on what time [the meet] is I either take it with me to school or I just go home and grab everything quickly,” Williams said.
After a meet, Williams finishes everything he needs to do before the day ends.
“I go home, eat dinner, do homework, do whatever I need to do, and go to bed,” Williams said.
Junior Leah Martin is the number one player on the girls tennis team. She gets ready for matches with her teammates. Tennis players have ranks, and numbers one through six are the varsity players.
“We usually all prep together. I’ll do warm ups with Windsor, the number two and then the three through six warm up on their own court. We’ll just hit, warm up our shots, talk, and get ready for the game mentally and physically,” Martin said.
In addition to preparing mentally and physically, their booster club (a volunteer group of adults who support different clubs and activities) also brings snacks. After a match, the team sometimes gets dinner or a treat together.
“We’ll all get together and hang out. Then I like to go home, finish my schoolwork, and go to bed early because I’m tired,” Martin said.
Sophomore Gavin Blaine is constantly preparing for his cross country meets with his fellow runners.
“We work hard all week then I try to carb load and get good rest the night before. Come race day, I eat a marshmallow and pray before we start our warm up then pray again before the gun goes off,” Blaine said.
After a meet, Blaine likes to go indoors where there is air conditioning to cool off from the long day.
“After a meet I like to chill in the AC and watch college football,” Blaine said.
All of these athletes work hard to get ready for their games and represent our school well. Whether it is in the pool, on the court, or at the starting line, being prepared is a large part of an athlete performing well and winning.
