Boys Baseball
Baseball season is hitting off quickly and the boys are hungry for another great year. Hear about the outlook for this season from sophomore, Wyatt Dunaway.
“This should be a good season, the 2026 and 2027 classes are really dominant so it should reflect on the field,” Dunaway said.
Although this is only Dunaway’s second season pitching for Junior Varsity, he has high hopes for himself and his teammates.
They will be playing in the Central Ozark Conference (COC) for the first time this year and will be up against some difficult schools. Some of their toughest competition will be against Nixa and Glendale.
Their preseason training in the weight room started as early as October and lasted up until the week of tryouts on March 3 through the 6. Their Jamboree will be March 21 at Springdale and will be the start to their season.
This season there will be a lot of home games for the boys, which will be a great opportunity for students to come and show support.
“We’re hoping to have a much better season than last year, we want to win districts and make it to state,” Dunaway said.

Boys Golf
Boys golf has begun and junior, Luke Patterson, shares what he and his teammates are hoping for this season.
“We hope to have a good year, hopefully a little better than last year,” Patterson said.
With only a few preseason meetings, golf tryouts started on March 3 and ended on March 6. Their tryouts were at the Oscar Bloom, Horton Smith, and Payton Stewart golf courses over the span of four days.
Their first meet will be on April 1 against Glendale. They will continue to be their biggest competitor in the COC along with Nixa. They lost matches against both the falcons and eagles last year and are ready for a comeback.
Overall, the boys are hoping for a great season this year filled with successes and improvement.
“I think we just want to improve this year, try to focus on the next shot more than the entire round and stay positive,” Patterson said.

Boys Tennis
Boys tennis is gearing up for another season on the court and junior, Joseph Coder gave a rundown of how he hopes this upcoming season is going to look.
“Personally I’m hoping for a really successful season and to go undefeated. I’m not sure about the others but they probably have similar outlooks,” Coder said.
Preseason training had been left up to the boys and they came prepared for tryouts the week of March 3 through 6. With tryouts done, they have their first match on March 31 at Glendale.
Their biggest competition in the COC this season will be Bolivar. They will be spending a lot of their games on our home courts, so come show support.
“We’re hoping for lots of success and that no one gets injured,” Coder said.

Girls Soccer
Girls soccer is our one and only all female spring sport, and they are hoping to have another great year ahead of them. Hear about the outlooks for the upcoming season from senior, Faith Joe.
This is the last highschool season for Joe, a Varsity Defender. She explains what this season will look like for her team.
“We’re going to have good chemistry and we’re going to work together as a team to push through every game and try to have fun,” Joe said.
The girls began preparing with preseason scrimmages as early as January. Their tryouts were March 3 through 6 shortly followed by their Jamboree on March 13. Their Jamboree will be held at Kickapoo and they will be up against Nixa and Glendale.
Their biggest rival will be Nixa. They lost districts to the eagles last year and are ready to dominate this year. Their season will have mostly home games this year so come support our lady chiefs.
“I think this year is going to be good. I’m ready to be a great leader and I hope the team is going to do well,” Joe said.

Track and Field
Last but not least, track and field is one of our schools biggest spring sports. Out of the many athletes who will be competing this year, junior, Ava Shurtz, tells us what her and the team’s season will look like.
“I think we’ll have a pretty good team for girls, and boys as well. I think we’re going to be a lot faster this year,” Shurtz said.
Track athletes, like Shurtz, have been doing their own preseason training since the summer. Others have been going to offseason training in the weight room after school.
Shurtz will be sprinting in multiple varsity events this season such as the 100 meter hurdles, 4 by 100 and 200 meter relays, and the open 200 meter dash. These are just a couple of the events open to track and field athletes.
Their first practice was March 3 and they will have their first meet, The Open House Meet, on April 1. The meet will be at Parkview and will be the start of their season.
“We want to see lots of improvement this year, to lock down and succeed,” Shurtz said.
With the last season just around the corner, our spring sports look to finish the season strong.
