Just like any other athletic team, the Golden Girls dance team has had many successes and built lasting memories this past year.
Recently, the Golden Girls announced the team for next year’s season. While there are many returning dancers, there will also be several new faces joining the ranks.
One of the returning members is freshman Gracie Dunn. This was her first year as a Golden Girl, and she loved being able to perform at our school’s basketball and football games, as well as the assemblies.
“One thing I am looking forward to next year is becoming really close to the new girls on the team,” Dunn said.
Dunn’s goals are not just reserved for the dance studio, she hopes to be a light to the other girls on the team.
“Some goals I have for myself next year is to overall be a more positive person and always try to become a better version of myself,” Dunn said.
For sophomore Tempe Taylor, she enjoyed her second year on the team. Taylor loved growing closer with the team from the games and assemblies to competing at nationals.
“My favorite part of this season was how close the team got coming up to nationals and how we all truly bonded,” Taylor said.
Like Dunn, Taylor is excited to get to know the new girls joining the team. She is also hoping to maintain an uplifting attitude and push herself to her full potential.
“My goals for next year are to keep it as positive as possible, have the least amount of drama, have everyone bond as a team, not have separate groups, and push myself and the team to our fullest potential,” Taylor said.
One of the three captains of next year is junior Creighton Kubik. She spent a lot of time with the girls, and created friendships and memories with everyone on the team. Regardless of whether it was at games, practices, or even just team dinners, she enjoyed every moment.
“I’m looking forward to so much next year! I’m excited to grow relationships with incoming freshmen and create a close group of girls. I am looking forward to all the games we get to perform at and going to Nationals in Orlando, Florida,” Kubik said.
In addition to the many football, basketball games, and assemblies that the Golden Girls perform at, the team competed at the University Dance Association (UDA) Nationals. The team placed second in Jazz, and fifth in Pom in Division 5 at Regionals. In Division 6, the Golden Girls placed second in Jazz and won 14 academic achievements at State.
For Kubik, she hopes to have more successes for herself and as an overall team. As one of next year’s captains, she will have the opportunity to help the team grow closer and improve every day.
“My goal for next year is to continue to grow and have fun while doing it. Our overall team goal would be finals at nationals and hopefully we can get there!” Kubik said.
However, it will take many hours of work to get back to nationals in Florida next year, and the new team is already practicing and integrating the new members. Keep a lookout for these dancers, both the five new incoming freshmen, and several returning dancers, as they continue to show their dance skills on the field and the court.
