Films for the Future
The new year has begun, and with that, we can anticipate the many movies that are soon coming with it. Ranging from mermaids to murderers, the movies this year have great potential.
The Little Mermaid
Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid made many people excited for the classic story to be retold.
The director Rob Marshall is well known for his work in enchanting movies such as Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins Returns.
The live-action adaptation will still follow Ariel’s journey with Prince Eric, but Marshall hints at some changes, such as the focus on Prince Eric and Ariel breaking down the barriers between these worlds.
The trailer for The Little Mermaid shows clips of the movie which feature beautiful scenery, quality music, and thorough casting.
According to a Variety interview with Marshall, Halle Bailey was a perfect fit.
“When she finished, I was in tears because she’s so soulful. You could tell right away that she was able to harness Ariel’s passion, her fire, her soul, her joy and her heart,” Marshall said.
Marshall is excited to see how people react to Bailey’s performance and her impact through the film.
The Little Mermaid is coming to theaters May 26, 2023 and families can be ready to explore the Disney classic once again.

Timothée Chalamet, the lead playing Paul Atredies, is excited for Dune: Part Two.
Chalamet’s performance was relatively well received, as according to Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 90%, it was one of the most well received movies he’s been in.
“It’s fascinating. And it’s something you don’t get to do with movies. Revist. Actually though, I’m feeling that with Dune,” Chalamet said.
Dune: Part Two will be in theaters November 3, 2023 where we can see more on Paul Atreides’s journey.
Barbie
The upcoming Barbie movie is becoming popular, with the trailer hitting 7.8 million views on Youtube.
The movie will follow Barbie after she is kicked out of Barbieland for having flaws, where she goes to the “human world” to understand herself and find her happiness.
Barbie will be directed by Greta Gerwig, but voiced concerns about the film on the At Your Service podcast.
“Usually that’s where the best stuff is, where you’re like, ‘I am terrified of that.’ Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ender’” Gerwig said.
Margot Robbie is playing Barbie, most known for her performances in Suicide Squad, and I, Tonya, also being nominated for two Oscars.
Robbie wants to bring the unexpected with Barbie and create the unpredictable according to her interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“People immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different, the thing you didn’t know you wanted,’” Robbie said.
Despite the challenges, Gerwig’s film is in post-production and the iconic film will be in theaters on July 21, 2023.
Scream
Scream is a well known horror/slasher series, and this year Scream VI is coming out.
