Au Revoir to Caesar & Bonjour to Candy!

Is a candy salad the new way to enjoy sweets or just a way to see who brings gross candy to the function? Candy salad is taking the internet by storm!

Sugary sweets, almost too good to eat! This is like Willy Wonka’s Factory but even better!

I know we’ve all seen this “candy salad” trend all over our TikTok For You page, but what is it? Candy salad is when you take your favorite sweets, grab a large bowl, dump said sweets into a bowl, and shake until everything is combined. Then boom!

You have candy salad to snack on throughout the day. I remember seeing this on TikTok and having mixed feelings about this “salad” that was taking over the internet.

As time passed, I fell down the rabbit hole of the candy salad phenomenon, and it’s all I ever saw on my For You page. Scroll after scroll, my algorithm knew I was becoming fond of this unique treat. Holidays came and went, and variations of this salad made their rounds online.

When Peter Cottontail was making his way down the bunny trail Easter candy salad became really popular. People would go to the store, buy all the Easter candy they could find, and dump the monstrosity into a bowl. This would include Peeps, Reese’s Eggs, jellybeans, Cadbury Mini Eggs, Easter-themed Sour Patch Kids, and many more.

Mixing fruity and chocolate candy should be a crime with one of the highest penalties. If it were up to me, I would force someone to listen to nails on a chalkboard while sitting in a dunk tank full of catfish. Chocolate and fruity candy don’t belong together; they never have and never will.

Moving on, my favorite candy salads I’ve seen have specific themes. For example, they are all one color or flavor. There have been blue raspberry, cherry, grape, and even chocolate.

I’m a blue raspberry girl through and through, so seeing an entire bowl filled with blue goodness makes my brain short-circuit.   Apparently, the best place to get blue raspberry candy is Dollar General or Dollar Tree. When you walk in, go straight to the candy aisle, and you’ll find all sorts of weird candy and flavors ranging from fruity to sour to sickly sweet.

Target and Walmart have candy, but the price is higher, and the options aren’t as good. If I’m craving an exotic sweet, Dollar General is right down the road from my house, so it’s the first place I go. While candy salad is new and exciting, I’m unsure how long this trend will stick around.

I guess until the end of summer, something new will take its place. It’s a never-ending cycle of trends and fads.
