Track is often overlooked as a sport compared to baseball, basketball, football, etc. Their incredible achievements regularly go unnoticed, but just this spring, they’ve accomplished a lot.
Their season, depending on varsity, starts around March-April and goes through the end of the school year. The track and cross country teams, both boys and girls, practice year-round and are constantly preparing for their season.
Even though their All-Run Track Meet earlier this season was canceled, the teams have been dominating the field ever since. In their recent 2025 Republic Relays competition, both boys and girls track teams placed an average of top ten, even top five for certain races.
“At our All-Relays Meet, we got second in the hurdle relay. Our 4×100 team did really well, and so did our 4×800 team,” sophomore Chloe Capel said.
Junior, Henry Barker says that there has been some big changes he’s seen throughout the season.
“I feel like there’s been some big improvements from last year’s cross country and track. We’ve gotten a lot better as a team because we’re older now,” Barker said.
The track team has achieved some amazing feats. There are Elite Performances, and individuals, as well as teams, can receive different medals based on different standards.
Both track teams won a total of six bronze medals in jumps, shot-puts, relay races, and other events. The boys track team has also received two silver medals, graded with the MileSplit US Second Team standard, in both meter-throws and discuss finals.
From the Junior Varsity (JV) Track side of things, freshman Genevieve Burton feels like she’s seen a lot of growth throughout their season.
“I feel like our boys and girls teams are doing really well and a lot of people are improving,” Burton said.
Capel, who is also on JV, says that their hard work behind the scenes has paid off.
“It went good for JV, I think we placed at most of our meets. Training went well, and we were constantly on top of things,” Capel said.
Overall, our track boys and girls have been taking their season in stride. With little to no complications they have had an amazing season, and are still going on to compete more and more each day.
Though track may be a second thought or may just seem like a bunch of running around, the teams do a lot and give our school pride.
