We are almost three-quarters of the year done, and we have yet to meet the staff. Let me introduce you to your senior Feature Editor, Alley Ackerman! Ackerman has been on staff since her sophomore year and started as a reporter, just like everyone else who joins.

“I took J1 (Journalism One) my freshman year, and it was my first class ever at Kickapoo, and the first thing my sophomore year, I decided to sign up for Magazine because I knew I would like that better than Yearbook,” Ackerman said.

She spends Monday through Friday in room 201 from 1:35 until 3:10 writing articles, editing fellow reporters’ works, taking photos, making social media posts, and being the best Feature Editor she can be. Ackerman is always there for those who need help or a suggestion.

“My favorite part of being a member of the KHQ is the freedom and friendships I’ve made from it,” Ackerman said.

Her favorite color is pink, and she works at Zaxby’s. When Ackerman’s not working, she loves to hang out with her friends or chill. Her senior year might almost be over; her future is just beginning.

“The future holds for me going to esthetician school, starting my own business, and having my own little family,” Ackerman said.

She is a fantastic writer and a talented photographer. While on staff, she will be a part of eight Kickapoo High Quarterly issues and seven online uploads to KHQ Today. It’s hard for her to narrow down just one story that she has loved the most out of all of the ones she has written, but if she had to pick one, it would be “God’s Children Are Not For Sale,” which is a collaboration piece with Opinion Editor Keegan Bukovatz.

“Tim Ballard’s bravery, commitment, and courage demonstrate the significance of the fight against child trafficking. This worldwide crisis is so real and so concealed that it may be difficult for people to see this movie. Sound of Freedom does a fantastic job of illustrating rather than only describing this issue. If my writing gets more people to watch the film, I’m all for that,” Ackerman said.

The KHQ has enjoyed having Alley Ackerman as our Feature Editor, and we are so excited to see what happens in the following chapters of her life. Once a chief, always a chief!
