The Spookiest Cereals

Halloween is a heavy themed holiday. Dressing up in costumes, trick or treating, haunted houses, corn mazes, and decorations. October is also a great time for food corporations such as cereals.

I decided to try out a bunch of different spooky themed cereals and decided which ones were worth it and which ones weren’t.

The first brand I tried was the General Monster Mills. There were three flavors to try, Count Chocula,  Franken Berry, and Boo Berry. All of these cereals are a combination of crunchy cereal pieces and marshmallows.

The Count Chocula was the worst cereal out of all of the ones I tried, the marshmallows tasted like a really bad chocolate bar and the crunchy pieces barely had any flavor, I would not recommend the count chocula.

The Franken and Boo berry ones were mediocre, the best part of these two was definitely the marshmallows, they tasted very sweet.

The Boo Berry had the better marshmallows in my opinion, they tasted like soft, chewy blueberries.

Franken berry’s marshmallows tasted good, but my only problem with these was when combined with milk it just tasted like strawberry milk, it didn’t have as much sweetness as the Boo Berry marshmallows.

These two flavors of marshmallows couldn’t completely save the cereals from the crunchy pieces, these ones like the Count Chocula tasted bland and dull.

The next brand was the  spooky Apple Jacks. This spooky version feels more like a marketing ploy to get more sales during October, there isn’t really a change in flavor, it just tastes like normal Apple Jacks with a Halloween themed box.

Next up is Cap’n Crunch’s Halloween Crunch. The actual cereal tastes a little sweeter than normal captain crunch, it still has that sweet berry flavor but even sweeter and more sugary which I think actually comes from the way the ghost cereal pieces  turn your milk into a light ghostly green color.

The combination of the sweet berry tasting ghost pieces and the cool green milk effect makes this one my personal favorite Halloweeen themed brand.

The last cereal that I tried was the new Hocus Pocus 2 brand, this was the one that had me the most excited to try, I loved the original Hocus Pocus movie and I had heard a lot of people talking about how they wanted to try this cereal, but after trying it out myself it was a big let down. For fans of the movies it might be a cool box to keep as a souvenir but the actual flavor isn’t worth it. This cereal has the slightest berry flavor to it, you can barely tell a difference between this brand and Cheerios.

It is nowhere near as sweet as any of the brands mentioned, which is kind of the point of a Halloween cereal, I know personally when it comes to a cereal in the month of October I want something sweet and flavorful, Halloween is the holiday of sugar and the Cap’n Crunch’s Halloween Crunch delivers that perfectly.
