Turner is always around to help our fellow reporters when stuck in a writing hole.

Her favorite phrase is “womp womp,” she is Starbucks’ number one supporter, introducing News Editor and Beats Coordinator Madison Turner! Turner has been a member of the Kickapoo High Quarterly (KHQ) since her junior year but is also a member of FCCLA and the Lady Chiefs soccer team.

“I just joined for fun, but then I realized it was so much more than that,” Turner said.

Turner is always ready to write an article about the latest thing happening in the news. Whether it be local or national, she’s ready to grab her notebook and pencil. Her favorite part about being a staff member is investigating local or national “mysteries” and getting others’ points of view.

Turner has written “Too Many to Count” print stories and seven online articles. She even had the opportunity to interview members of the Innocence Project at a journalism convention in Boston, Massachusetts, in November of 2023 and a National Football League (NFL) player about life with diabetes since she is also a diabetic.

“I like many of the stories that I’ve written. But my favorites have to be when I interviewed an NFL player and did a story about how the justice system is broken (The Innocence Project),” Turner said.

She works at Orange Leaf and Lake Country Soccer when she’s not spending time in room 201 secretly watching Marvel movies, in the FAC’s room whipping up a treat, or on the soccer field destroying the Glendale Falcons. If free time is available in her busy schedule, Turner enjoys playing soccer and listening to live music, especially with her mom.

“Outside of school, I play club and high school soccer. I also go to a lot of concerts,” Turner said.

With two and a half months left before our senior leaders leave, Turner’s future will be staying relatively close to the Springfield location with a long road ahead.

“I’m going to go to Missouri State to study medicine, then go to a medical school somewhere to hopefully become a pediatric endocrinologist,” Turner said.

We wish Turner the best of luck, and the KHQ can’t wait to see where the feature leads her!
