Confuse your pals by throwing vintage slang into your conversations.

With slang changing every few weeks, it’s hard to keep up. That’s why it’s time for a blast from the past to bring back some of the best vintage slang to adopt into your vocabulary!

Wisenheimer- If you can be described as better than everyone else or smarter then those around you, then you’re a wisenheimer! This term originated in the early 1900s, with the closest synonym being smart aleck. Wisenheimer should be brought back to spice up insults.

Ducky Shincracker- If you go to any school dance, you’re bound to find one of these. Ducky shincracker is used to describe someone who is good at dancing, with its popularity being highest in the 1940’s. Ducky shincracker should be brought back because it’s one of the silliest compliments.

Sklonkish- Have you ever had a bad day, or a class you didn’t enjoy? Both of those were Sklonkish! This is another 1940’s word, and it means anything generally bad. Sklonkish should be brought back because the word brings fun to bad moments or unpleasant things.

Bags o’ Mystery- Be sure to whip this one out at your next bbq. Bags o’ mystery refers to sausages. Finding its home in the Victorian era, it’s the perfect term to bring back because it still holds up. Anyone who does know the ingredients will tell you to avoid eating them.

Whopperups- A wopperup is someone who sings, but isn’t exactly hitting all the notes. It’s not hard to find one, especially on karaoke night. This is the perfect way to describe someone whose singing skills aren’t quite there.

Focus on your audio- Focus on your audio means to listen carefully, although it’s unclear how the term first came about, it’s safe to say that it’s fallen out of trend with later generations. This should be brought back because it’s perfect for those whom you love but don’t want to say shut up to.

With every new day we change the way languages sound and what words mean, bringing back old slang is not only fun, but also connects us to past generations in ways we don’t often think about. Hopefully these fun terms make your days brighter and your conversations more entertaining!
