Sledding:
From racing to building ramps, sledding is a classic and fun activity for a snow day. If you are bored inside on a cold, snowy day, bundle up and grab your sled. Sledding hills in the area include Wanda Gray Elementary, Springfield Lake, Carver Elementary, and the hills across from Academy Sports on Campbell Avenue.
Building a Snowman:
A core childhood memory is making snowmen. The steps of building a snowman are pretty basic: roll three large balls of snow, making thrm smaller as you go, and stack them on top of eachother smallest to largest. Then, add black eyes and a carrott nose. But, to make your snowman stand out, add some clothes, sunglasses, and Christmas lights for festivity!
Watching Movies:
If the day is too cold for outdoor activities, holiday movies are a great option. Sit back and cuddle up with a blanket, warm beverage, and a snack. Some top holiday movies are: “Elf ”, “Polar Express”, “The Grinch”, “The Santa Clause”, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, “Home Alone”, and more!
Baking Cookies:
A classic holiday activity that would be great for a day off is baking, specifically cookies! Some festive cookies for the holidays are: gingerbread, snickerdoodles, molasses, sugar, and chocolate crinkles. Here is a good recipe for chocolate crinkle cookies.
Ingredients:
– One box of chocolate cake mix
– ⅓ cup of canola or vegetable oil
– Two eggs
– One teaspoon of vanilla extract
– ¼ cup of powdered sugar (for rolling the dough in)
Steps:
– In a mixing bowl, stir together dry cake mix, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until you form dough.
– Cover and place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to help make the dough easier to work with.
– Use your hands to roll the dough into a ball shape. Put powdered sugar on a plate and coat the whole ball of dough in the powdered sugar.
– Place the powdered sugar dough balls on a cookie sheet (make sure to leave space in between each of the cookies). Bake at 350℉ for nine-11 minutes or until set.
– Enjoy!
Shoveling Driveways:
Shoveling driveways is a great way to do something productive on your snow day and also earn money. Grab a shovel from your garage or purchase one for a few dollars and start shoveling. To make the job easier, push the snow straight ahead to a pile and don’t lift, hold the shovel close to your body, and shovel in layers!
